A morning of foraging for edible goodies in our woods at Beaulieu followed by a cook up around the campfire using the wild food ingredients you have collected. Enjoy a pleasant two hour walk through the woods to discover what edible treats the woodland has to offer: trees and plants as well as medicinal varieties. After an exciting morning of foraging, relax around the campfire where a large menu of 8 – 10 dishes will be cooked by James, (a regional “Masterchef” finalist) and available for everyone to try.

Grow It, Cook It, Eat It!

Following on from Jeannette’s popular courses last year, Jeannette continues to help you make more of your garden and kitchen.
· Understanding the soil
· Growing in the ground, containers and the greenhouse
· Sowing and propagation
· Unusual veg and favourite varieties
Plenty of tips on what to do and when and much more.
In the first of three, seasonal sessions, Jeannette teaches you how to grow it and then cooks it on the spot at the CET where everyone will learn more about making use of their produce and be able to sample the tasty results. Gardening and cooking combined … there is something for everyone who wants to get more from their plot!

Introduction to Home Chicken Keeping
Saturday 10th March 9.30 am – 1.00 pm at the Out of Town Centre
with Jeannette Owens, a local, experienced chicken enthusiast who knows all the tricks of the trade.
The course will cover: basic anatomy, egg production and rearing chicks, breeds, common diseases, housing, feeding, cleaning, protection from foxes and rats, rescue hens, where to buy chickens and products plus some personal stories of chicken keeping. During the session there will be an opportunity to see different breeds of chicken, housing types and to practise chicken handling. The course will teach you everything you need to know to get started with raising chickens at home … and more!

Spring Bird Watching Walks
A series of guided walks giving you the unique opportunity to birdwatch on quiet areas of private land in the company of professional, knowledgeable guide, Graham Giddens. Also suitable for beginner birdwatchers and for those wishing to learn more about bird song.
Feb 12th - 9am – 11.30 am, Dock Lane and Moonhills, private riverside, fields and woodlands.
March 11th – 9am – 11.30 am, Park Shore, private beach, conservation farmland and lagoons.
April 15th – 8am – 10.30 am, Bird Song Masterclass at Dock Lane and Moonhills, private riverside, gardens, hedgerows and woodlands.
April 29th – 6am – 9am, Dawn Chorus with Nightingales at Needs Ore Reserve, private bird reserve with hides and fine views of the Solent.
May 13th – 9am – 11.30 am, Hartford Wood and Surrounding Heathland, beginning in private woodlands then walking out onto the New Forest heathland.
Each walk will be approx. 3 miles (5km), on countryside paths and uneven terrain. Please contact us for more details. Cost: £12.00 per walk per person, Friends of the Trust £10.00. Numbers are limited on each walk so book early. Full details of meeting arrangements will be sent upon booking.
