Select your materials from our woodland and  create your own besom broom to take away using traditional woodcraft tools and techniques.

GYPSY PEG MAKING

Learn the skill of Gypsy Peg making using traditional coppice products and tools. Take your own peg home with you at the end!

BLOCK PRINT MAKING - Fully booked!

Take inspiration from the surrounding woodland to create fun images to frame, make into cards, gift tags and more!

WRITING WORKSHOP 
Thursday 28th May 
10am – 12pm & 1pm – 3pm
At the Treehouse Study Centre 

These half-day writing workshops focus on developing short stories, drawing on the natural world for inspiration. We will use a range of objects as a starting point for writing, before moving on to look at how to develop characters.

The workshops will be led by Fiona Egglestone. Fiona writes short stories for children and adults and is currently studying for a MFA (Master of Fine Arts) at Falmouth University.

Suitable for children aged 8-12. Children to be dropped off and collected at the end of the session.

FAIRYTALE STORY TRAIL

FALCONRY LECTURE:
1000 Years of Falconry in South Hampshire &
 the New Forest 

with Paul Manning

A fascinating lecture covering the history of falconry, the nature of birds
and the ancient art of falconry up to the present day.
PLUS – An opportunity to see a flying demonstration at the end
of the lecture (weather permitting).

NATURE ACTIVITIES

SPRING BIRD WATCHING WALKS WITH GRAHAM GIDDENS
Guided walks giving you the unique opportunity to birdwatch on quiet areas of private land in the company of professional, knowledgeable guide, Graham Giddens. 
 
Each walk will be approx. 3 miles (5km) and run for approximately 2 hours sometimes on uneven terrain. Please wear dark colours. Paths may be muddy and wet, so wear walking boots or wellies with a good grip.
 
JANUARY
Sunday 18th: KEYHAVEN at 9 - 11am
WE SHOULD SEE: Wildfowl, waders and birds of prey.
 
FEBRUARY
Sunday 8th: HATCHET POND at 9 - 11 am
WE SHOULD SEE: Heathland and woodland birds, including birds of prey, woodpeckers and goldcrests.
This walk is hilly and wet- please wear waterprof footwear.
 
MARCH
Sunday 22nd: DOCK LANE AND MOONHILLS at 9 - 11 am
WE SHOULD SEE: Bird song, woodland and farmland birds, as well as wildfowl and waders on the river.
This walk is wet- please wear waterprof footwear.

APRIL
Sunday 19th: THE SALTERNS AND NORMANDY MARSH at 9 - 11am
WE SHOULD SEE: Wildfowl, waders and summer migrants.

MAY
Sunday 10th: DAWN CHORUS at PIG BUSH at 6am
WE SHOULD SEE: Bird song and summer migrants displaying.

Cost: £12.00 per walk per person. Friends of the Trust: £10.00.

CHILDREN’S PARTIES

If you want something different – outdoor and eco-friendly, we have two great venues: The magical Treehouse Study Centre and Out of Town Centre Farm at Beaulieu with a range of fun activities.

Themes include Survival for 7 year olds + and Campfire Experience for 10 year olds+, a range of exciting themes for 4 – 10 year olds including Robin Hood, Pirates, Fairies & Elves, Dinosaurs, Bugs and Animals based at the Treehouse Study Centre all year round and farm parties in spring and summer at the Out of Town Centre.

FALCONRY ACTIVITIES 

With Paul Manning Falconer of Amews Falconry at the Out of Town Centre, Beaulieu.  Paul is a fully accredited LANTRA falconry assessor, has practiced falconry for over 20 years and is chairman of the Wessex Falconry & Hampshire Hawking Club.

“Introduction to Falconry” - A Falconry experience
During this half day session you will gain a basic understanding of birds of prey, their training and care whilst providing a hands-on experience holding and flying falconry birds.
Sundays         10.00am – 1.30pm
22nd February, 7th March (Saturday), 15th March, 12th April, 10th May, 13th June (Saturday)
Cost: £50.00 per person. Friends of the Trust: £45.00.  
Additional dates available on request.
