Beaulieu Observatory

The Beaulieu Observatory with its 10" Newtonian telescope was established in 2000 when Brian Sothcott, a member of The Southampton Astronomical Society, purchased the King Alfred College Observatory at Winchester. The Dome was sold to Vectus on the Isle of Wight and the 10" Newtonian telescope was relocated in the grounds of the Out Of Town Centre with the help of The CET, Graham Carter, Beaulieu's former Education Director, The Southampton Astronomical Society and the late John Thompson.

The telescope is now on permanent loan to The Countryside Education Trust and has been integrated into our calendar of events.

The Trust runs a series of astronomical talks in the spring and autumn in conjunction with The Southampton Astronomical Society and Brian Sothcott with viewing sessions on the 10" telescope, weather permitting.
