A week in the Life of a CET Centre Assistant

Description

Friday 24th July 2026

Two weeks at CET are very rarely the same, as I have come to know very well. In my role, I am involved in every known aspect of CET, and some that are still surprises.

Monday was a fairly predictable admin and projects day, gathering quotes for a new interpretation board, designing recording sheets for our bioblitz event, helping a delivery driver unload a flat packed chicken house, classic office stuff.

On Wednesday, I’ll have several meetings. The first, with an stop motion-animator who wants to lead some family workshops, helping us to fundraise. Next I’ll meet with my colleagues to organise our BioBlitz, and then give a demonstration of our new finance system I’ve set up. To end the day. I’ll jump in to help with an after school club, where we’ll be halter training this year’s lambs, then taking some kids around the farm in our passenger trailer.

As for Thursday, I’ll be working a later shift to cope with the heat! I’ll jump in the van and head to ikea, then back to the farm: tending to the animals, cleaning out the hay barn, and helping bringing the annual hay cut in.
