Writer in Residence – Celebration Evening

New Forest Writer in Residence Yarrow Townsend has been based at the Countryside Education Trust for the last twelve months, following the seasonal cycles of the farm and the woodland.

Join us for an evening in Hartford Wood to celebrate Yarrow’s writing – with readings from her poetry, extracts from her sketchbooks and workshops, and a walk to some of the woodland sites that inspired her work.

From poetry about woodland management, to sketches from charcoal making workshops, Yarrow’s work this year has explored the Countryside Education Trust’s work throughout the seasons. She’s spent time following Hartford Stream, exploring the surrounding heathland, helping out with the farm’s Shetland Sheep and coppicing hazel, to name just a few.

In her own writing – and in the workshops she runs – she’s especially interested in how we can connect to the landscape through creativity and practical work – whether that’s making ink from oak galls found in the hedge, cooking charcoal by the cob cottage – or tying together notebooks with hand-spun sheep fleece.

Refreshments provided. This event will take place in the Treehouse Study Centre (step-free access) and the walk will be around 40 minutes through the woodland over uneven ground.

This residency is hosted by the Countryside Education Trust in Beaulieu, supported by ArtfulScribe and funded by the New Forest National Park Authority’s Sustainable Communities Fund.
