Young Handler Competition

Wednesday 12th June 2019

If you’ve ever seen people showing animals at a country show and thought that looked like fun or would just like to know about farm animals and how to look after them, then this could be an opportunity for you.

We are offering to train 3 children in how to handle and lead sheep and then when they’ve mastered the basics, enter the Young Handler Competition at this year’s New Forest Show on Thursday 1st August.

For children aged 6-11 (school years 1 – 6)

To enter, please send us a drawing, a poem or some interesting information you have found out about Shetland Sheep.

Please include your name, age, class and contact details with your entry and send it to us by Monday 24th June.

(feel free to drop your entries into the reception if you’re passing.)

3 best entries will win:
• The chance to show one of our Shetland Sheep in the 2019 New Forest and Hampshire County Show Young Handler class
• Free entry to the show for you and your family
• A rosette for taking part in the competition for all young handlers
• Take your sheep into the grand parade (accompanied by CET staff)
• Free entry to the Countryside Education Trust, Countryside on Show event for you and your family and the option to take part in the sheep handling display
• A sheep keyring and sheep bug toy

Winners will need to be able to come to the Countryside Education Trust for 2 practice sessions before the show.

We will also be choosing 10 runners up. They will receive
• Free entry to the Countryside Education Trust Countryside on Show event for you and your family
• A sheep keyring and sheep bug toy
